DAS LUDWIG Sports Resort

We were disappointed with our stay and don’t expect to return. For our next golf holiday in Bavaria, we’ll look at other hotels nearby, where the service and food seem better. As our children are older now, that makes sense for us. We’d visited several years earlier, when the kids were younger. They liked the local area and the football camp, which taught grass-roots skills as well as mental focus. The kids club was busy, well run, and even had a handprint wall with our children’s prints still on it from their previous visit. The hotel sits among the golf resorts in Bad Griesbach. Our room was dated, though the website showed some renovated rooms. We had a suite that was really two rooms opened up with a connecting door and one bed removed, plus a standard room for the children. The key cards hung on wrist lanyards, but the room numbers were printed on them, so anyone finding a lost card could get into that room. Food was pastas and pizzas at lunch, then steamed vegetables, lots of potatoes, and grilled meats for meals. There were cheeses, bread, a small salad buffet, ice cream, and somewhat more interesting desserts at dinner. The food felt only a little better than canteen fare, so we tried restaurants at other resorts through the dine-around program, but those weren’t much better. Restaurants in nearby towns were markedly better. There was nothing specifically wrong with the hotel food; it just wasn’t to our taste, since we prefer bolder, more interesting and complex flavors. Service also seemed to have slipped. Some dining room and other property staff came across as disinterested and not particularly happy. The front desk team and kids club staff were helpful, especially Mr Detlev, who was amazing. Usually we can tell who runs and oversees a place like this, but the hotel seemed to have been taken over by a consortium, which may have taken away some of its personality.
