If you’re into original 60s and 70s furniture, carpets, wallpaper, and that old smell, you might be fine here. For me it was creepy and awful. Dust everywhere, dirty towels, and beds as soft as hammocks. The breakfast was the bare minimum you’d expect from a hotel that offers breakfast. Seriously, an absolute no-go.

The owner is a very friendly older man with good tips for hikes in the Harz. The place is a bit worn, but still really nice, with clean rooms, working facilities, and heating. Oldie but Goldie fits both the hotel and its owner. I’d stay here again if I were setting out early the next day to climb from Bad Harzburg.

Staying here is like stepping into the seventies, so you’ll definitely have a story to tell. I can’t decide whether I love it or not.

The staff are friendly, but the hotel looks like it’s from the 80s. The only issue was getting the hot water sorted.

The only good thing was being near the city center. I can’t recommend this place at all. It smelled musty, and after two sleepless nights I left, even though I’d booked five days. I was meant to get two days refunded, but received only a partial refund as a goodwill gesture. I’m going to ask a lawyer whether that’s fair given how bad the problem was. I doubt the issues will be fixed within a month, and I’m curious to see what happens. The lack of breakfast wasn’t a big deal for me. Absolutely unacceptable, and I wouldn’t give it any stars.
