Hotel Villa am Kurpark

We were there recently. The rooms were nice, the staff polite and good, and there was a small parking area.

We had a small baby, so it was really important that everything went smoothly, but communication with the hotel was extremely difficult, almost nonexistent. Since there’s no 24-hour front desk, I tried several times to contact them without getting through. We arrived very late, and the key had been left with instructions. The sign was hard to see in the poor light, and parking was confusing because reception hadn’t said where we could park. The main villa building was under construction, so we stayed in a small brick building next to it. It was clean, but the furniture was very old. The room was freezing, around 13 degrees even though it was summer, because all the windows had been left open. The bed squeaked with every move and kept waking the baby. The feather pillows were half empty, so after a while there was barely anything under your head. The carpet looked new and was clean, but the mattress was hard for side sleepers. The room and bathroom were very clean and had nice toiletries. Breakfast was served in the main building’s conservatory, with a pleasant view of green grass, roses and a little water feature. It was basic but okay, with enough to find something you like, though nothing spectacular. The breakfast lady was very kind, helpful and attentive, asking if we needed anything. At checkout I was disappointed that nobody asked for feedback, how the room was or whether we’d managed to find everything after arriving late. I wouldn’t recommend it for families with small children. It could suit a couple who don’t care much about comfort and want a convenient location.

Right across from a beautiful park, this is a wonderful place with lots of character and history. The rooms were very comfortable, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Three stars feels about right, and no more. The hotel seems stuck in time, with furniture and room styles from the late 80s or early 90s. Breakfast was a real disaster. There’s a decent cold-food selection, but the only hot options are eggs and scrambled eggs, which were dry and clumped into blocks. The coffee tasted instant, and without a coffee machine there’s no latte or cappuccino. They definitely need to improve the quality.
