Restaurant & Hotel Hohenzollern

We had a warm, spacious and comfortable room on the second floor, number 207, looking over the vines behind the hotel. It had a sitting area and a stocked mini fridge, though the Wi-Fi bandwidth was poor. The food and wines are especially good, making this a great place for a gastronomic break. We’ll be back next time we visit Ahrweiler.

The rooms are traditional in style, but very clean. This historic hotel has an impressive view into the Ahrtal, and its wine list is just as impressive, with many rare and old vintages. Have a look when you’re there.

The restaurant is amazing, and breakfast was lovely. It’s right beside the hiking and biking trail, with plenty of parking if you come by car. The hotel sits near the city but outside it, so it’s very quiet. A heads-up for Americans: there’s no air conditioning.

We had a superb meal here, the best we’ve ever had while travelling in Germany. My husband chose the three-course menu, which began with an amuse-bouche of asparagus panacotta, perfectly done. The fish with asparagus that followed was delicious, and then there was a cucumber sorbet as a palate cleanser. Wow, I could eat that every day! His main was very tender beef cheek and beef cooked sous vide, which was less tender but tasty. I had fish with risotto and asparagus, which was a delight, and we finished with a nice dessert. Congratulations to the talented chef, and thank you. The hotel is on a vineyard hill above a small town. The rooms are nice and efficient.
