Hotel Dominikaner

The restaurant was clean and the service was friendly, but we won't return. We ordered braised beef brisket with carrot and pea vegetables and napkin dumplings. A staff member later said they were out of carrots and would bring horseradish sauce instead. When the plate arrived, it had some sauce and potatoes, but no dumplings. We were still charged the full price, even though what we got didn't match the menu dish.

I haven't stayed at the hotel, so I can only speak about the food. The Dominikaner restaurant is now called "Schnitzelhof." If schnitzel is what you want, they have lots of different kinds. It's a popular place, so it's a good idea to reserve, otherwise you may have to wait.

The service was friendly, and both food and drinks came quickly, so no complaints there. The schnitzels were okay for the price, though not especially impressive, which was what we'd expected. We came to try the place because we hadn't been to the chain before and were curious about it. The drinks menu is decent, and we'd have liked to sit for a drink if the place felt cozier and was furnished with more style. The vaulted cellar could be lovely, but it's full of old plastic ivy and other clutter, and the paint is peeling. A couple of buckets of paint could probably sort it out on a day off. The concept seems to work, anyway. All the best :)

After two nights I was glad to leave. For the nightly price, I'd expected more than just a warm, clean room. It felt dated, cluttered, and austere, and early morning traffic made it hard to have any peace. Parking is in a limited public lot in front of the hotel, with time restrictions. The hotel offers Wi-Fi, but I couldn't get a connection. Calling reception in Neckargemünd got nowhere, and the promised help never came. Breakfast was sparse, just hard rolls and one plate of cold cuts and cheese per person, though the coffee was acceptable. It might do for a single night if there's no better option, but I wouldn't recommend it or choose it again myself.
