The apartment feels sparsely furnished, and there’s no place to put toiletries in the bathroom. The kitchen sink is so small that even a dinner plate won’t fit, and washing up is hard because there’s no dishwasher. The main problem for us was the bed: two separate single beds pushed together, with loose mattresses and weak spring support. We each sank into a hollow, so getting close was difficult and we ended up sleeping apart. The hollows were visible even before we used the bed. Sleep was poor, and for context, neither of us weighs 75 kg. On the plus side, the landlords were pleasant to deal with. The house is peaceful, away from the city bustle, with a balcony view over the garden to the mountains and Marzoll Castle. Bus stops are close by, as is a small shop for everyday needs.

The Untersberg apartment has a lovely mountain view, and the narrow balcony gets morning sun. The shower squeegee was warped and useless, and the mattresses sagged terribly.

The room was cozy and clean, with a fantastic view, and the people were friendly. You can get out hiking as much as you like, right up to cramping calves. Everything is easy to reach, Austria is only five minutes away, and the Berchtesgaden area is about half an hour off.

The tourist tax feels outrageous for what you get, though I know that isn’t the accommodation’s fault. We were given only one set of towels for a week, which I found unhygienic. There was just one partly used toilet roll, no spare bin bags, and the coffee machine looked off-putting. They seem to have cut corners in the wrong places. The house itself is beautiful, with a balcony over the garden and mountains. The apartment is fine for two, and the beds are comfortable if you like soft mattresses. The furnishings could use improvement, and cleanliness was only okay. Wi-Fi is available. The carpets, especially on the stairs, are a real slipping and tripping hazard.
