Wyndham Grand Bad Reichenhall Axelmannstein

Arriving on a Saturday night with two small kids, we ran into unfriendly staff and trouble at check-in. When we asked for something to eat, they said the cute restaurants shown on the hotel's website were all closed and sent us outside. They pointed us toward the only restaurant that way, but it had stopped serving for the evening. The next day we found 20 restaurants just a few minutes' walk in the opposite direction, full of people and serving food late. The hotel staff clearly had no clue. A very sweet restaurant host at the hotel saved the evening by serving us some simple food. The hotel has lost its grace and elegance, and the experience wasn't “grand”. It hasn't been updated in decades, even the shower head is from the last century. The grand garden was overgrown and looked uncared for. The pool may once have been an oasis, and with work could become an amazing, luxurious spa, but it was just okay as it is. It was a sad stay in a place that used to be grand and now feels run down. We truly hope it gets saved and restored to its former glory. Only then would I return with my family.

We enjoyed our short stay and had no complaints. The beds were perfect, the showers worked perfectly, and breakfast was good. Staff were very kind, and the rooms spacious. We arrived after midnight and stayed just one night. The furniture, carpets, and curtains have seen better days, though you can still sense the style and class the place once had.

It's a pity paid parking isn't included. Some staff were quite friendly, the grounds were nice to walk around, and the view from the restaurant window was lovely. The hotel has old-world Bavarian charm and character, and it seems to go on forever. Its long, cavernous halls lead to all sorts of surprises, including pools and spas.

The location is excellent, right on the high street and not far from the station. This is a historic hotel whose rooms and floors belong to another era, and you can tell its best days are behind it. Still, it's top class in its own way. Staff were competent and friendly, and the rooms were clean and in good shape, better than in many newer hotels, though a little small for me. The food was excellent but the selection and presentation were rather ordinary. Dinner is buffet style, though à la carte would suit a hotel like this better. WiFi is included and had good coverage. The parking lot behind the building is a bit small and rather unkempt, and it's also a bit far away. It costs 7€/day.
