Hotel Häfner

I wouldn't stay here again. The price is too high for a basic room with a heater that didn't work properly and WiFi that ranged from poor to nonexistent. Cell coverage was poor too, and there was no shower gel. Breakfast was 9€ per person and average to mediocre. Our package was supposed to include a bottle of Sekt on arrival, but there was only water in the bedroom, and we had to pay for it.

It's a nice, quiet residential area, and the place is comfortable and good value if you're on a tight budget. There are a couple of good places to eat within easy walking distance, though there's no dinner service, and you'll need transport to get elsewhere. Breakfast is okay but nothing special: no toaster or fried eggs, and the scrambled eggs were too dry and rubbery for me. In the off-season, the smaller building 50m away may not serve breakfast, so you have to walk to the main building. That's manageable, but frustrating in very cold or bad weather. WiFi didn't work for me in the smaller building. I was told too many devices were claiming IP addresses, and mobile reception, at least on Vodafone, was too poor for tethering. I hope they improve the WiFi before I consider staying again.

Bad Schönborn is small and quiet, with almost nothing to see, so we had to look around for places to visit. We drove to Palmenparadies instead of using the option to visit Thermarium, about 20km by car or 1.5hrs by train, and loved it. We also went to Auto&technik Museum Sinsheim for 3hrs, which still wasn't enough to see everything. We came for the New Year holidays with a Groupon ticket that included the option of a shuttle to Thermarium near the hotel. The hotel was clean and nice, the staff friendly, and we received the promised free champagne and bathrobes for the sauna. We're very happy with this relaxing holiday and strongly recommend the hotel.

The employees were friendly and very helpful, and I'm looking forward to coming back. The room was tidy and comfortable, with a big TV showing the default kabel channels and WiFi available. It's in a very quiet location.
