Best Western Hotel Sachsen Anhalt

I was in town for work and had a great stay. The staff were really nice. There wasn’t a fridge in my room, but you can ask and they’ll get one for you.

We’ve used this hotel every summer for several years as a convenient halfway stop on the way home. The senior receptionist, who we’ve met many times, was wonderful again. Although we booked in a rush and hadn’t asked, he arranged for our two rooms to be on the same floor. We really appreciated that. The restaurant was a very different experience. Nobody greeted or seated us, so after waiting we went to the bar and asked two staff members whether anyone was available. Eventually someone came over and hurriedly cleared a large, messy table. Our 13-year-old daughter is a very particular eater and wanted chicken nuggets from the children’s menu. I understand it’s officially for children 12 and under, but the server was dismissive, made faces, and said the chef wouldn’t make them. I explained that if she couldn’t have that meal, she wouldn’t eat anything. It would have been better service to make the small exception than sell nothing. The server then walked off dramatically and rushed through taking the rest of our order. If it hadn’t been late and the children hadn’t just endured a 1,000 km drive, we would have gone elsewhere. We had no choice but to put up with the unprofessional service. It’s a shame because the hotel and reception staff have always been excellent, but this experience has made us question whether to return. There are other hotels in Germany that might value their guests more.

The location by the roundabout and motorway isn’t inviting, but it works well if you need to get off the motorway. I stayed one night on a business trip after time in “charming” English country hotels, and the contrast was striking. The hotel and rooms were modern and very clean. The bed was firm, and the shower was hot and powerful. Reception and restaurant staff were super friendly. Dinner was very nice and served until 9 p.m. While I watched football with a few other guests, staff made sure we didn’t run out of beer. Breakfast was worth the money, and they brought me an espresso when I asked. Animals are allowed, and I saw at least two large dogs. The exterior was in great shape too, with extra places made for swallows to nest. I counted at least six nests on the front of the building. A good option near Magdeburg for travellers, or swallows.

We arrived late in the evening without a reservation while driving from the Netherlands to Poland, and choosing this hotel worked out really well. The service was quick and friendly, the room was very clean, and the bed was comfortable. It was quiet and cosy, good value for the money, and breakfast was delicious. I definitely recommend it!
