Hotel-Garni Herzog

That Christmas party at Hotel Herzog was such a lovely time. The staff welcomed us warmly and kept looking after everyone, which deserves a big thank you. We started with a huge bowl of beef soup, so generous we could have dived in; a bit of bread would have been perfect with it. Then the buffet had chicken, duck, schnitzel, fish, spaetzle, croquettes and potatoes, all fantastic. The vegetables, salads and dessert were divine. We even joked that we should have brought our Tupperware. It was worth 10 points from us, not just five stars. Thanks to everyone there.

The food tasted good, but the whole buffet was badly organized. We spent nearly an hour and a half of our two-hour visit standing in lines or waiting. The buffet space was tiny, the choices limited, and there was no separate sauce for the schnitzel. Plates kept running out, and food containers sat empty. We waited half an hour for soup and even longer for drinks. Though the buffet ran from noon to 2 pm, dessert wasn't put out until 1 and wasn't replenished after 1:30. For so little choice and such poor organization, the price makes no sense. We won't return.

We had reserved for nine people at 12:30 pm for family Christmas dinner on December 25, 2025. When we went up to the buffet, it was empty. The children hadn't gotten fries, and staff refused when we asked them to refill them. The cauliflower was moldy inside, too. I really can't understand where the good reviews come from.

We came as seven for Sunday lunch and had a really pleasant meal. The food was superb, from soup through dessert, all of it delicious German cooking you don't come across much these days. Staff were very friendly as well. Thanks, we'll definitely come back.
