Speicher Barth - DESIGNHOTEL

The restaurant overlooking the quay and harbor was great, and it gets busy, so book ahead. We stayed in a small self-contained apartment over two floors in this interesting hotel, converted from a warehouse. I loved the two little balconies, though I'm not sure what you'd do with them. The spiral stairs up to the bedroom might not work for everyone.

The view across Barth harbor was magnificent and worth the price, though some outdoor seating would be nice for watching the sunsets. Breakfast suited me, and there were enough choices. We even ordered eggs the way we wanted them. The staff were welcoming and really nice. Our suite was on two floors, with a huge balcony shared with the next room and no divider. It had a nice bathroom with a tub. The old brick warehouse has been turned into a fine hotel. It's showing some wear and isn't the newest, but it's still pretty cool. The price seemed okay, though definitely toward the high end.

The restaurant has a stunning harbor view, serves really good food, and the breakfast is great. If breakfast isn't part of the room rate, it's 16€ per person. Restaurant and reception staff were very friendly, though housekeeping was less so. I liked the distinctive hotel building and its wooden details. The two-level rooms could make better use of their space: the downstairs kitchen and dining area are basically useless because they're completely unequipped, as explained on the table. Meanwhile, that leaves the upstairs bedroom and bathroom short on space. The two small single beds are just pushed together and can easily drift apart, which shouldn't happen in a four star hotel. Both levels do have a tiny balcony looking over the harbor. Nice place, but a little too expensive.

The location and views were great, and the room stayed fairly cool during the heatwave. We had a cool split-level room with lots of space and an extra toilet. Dinner at the restaurant was delicious, and breakfast was pretty good too.
