Frida Hotel & Cafe

Really nice rooms for a good price, in a very nice hotel. Service on site is limited, though. Give it a try...

That breakfast was a real treat, especially the good coffee, which is hard to find outside Copenhagen. We had bread and pastries, boiled eggs, good cold cuts and cheeses, salmon with horseradish, fresh vegetables, spreads, and plenty of drinks. The à la carte setup is nearly always better than a buffet. Our family room was spacious and thoughtfully laid out, with two connected rooms and a big bathroom between them. I'm still frustrated that small families with two children are often made to book two separate rooms elsewhere, so I really appreciate owners who understand it shouldn't have to work that way. Everything was spotless, from the floors and bathroom to the crisp white bed linen and shared areas. The mattress and pillows were comfortable too, and we woke feeling rested and full of energy. We stayed in seven hotels on a long road trip, all carefully chosen and good, but Frida Hotel & Café in the small northern German town of Bassum was exceptional. I'd happily pack it in our luggage and take it along with us.

Frida Kahlo is clearly a big inspiration here, and the decoration is beautiful, with so much attention to detail. The cafe food was fresh, tasty, and looked almost too good to eat. The staff were friendly and capable, too. I can thoroughly recommend this hotel.

The food was delicious, and everyone we met, from the cafe staff to the hotel manager, was super friendly and helpful. They were especially kind with our little baby. Can't recommend them highly enough!
