We were three middle-aged women from the States who wanted to share a space rather than be split up. Eva found us a room on the third floor, which is usually used for conferences, and it had more than we could have hoped for. The floor was beautifully decorated, with eclectic furniture, vintage rugs hung on the walls, curtains concealing the electrical box, and inviting linens. The bathroom had room for all three of us to get ready, and the half bath had a pull-chain toilet. There was even a dog bed in the loft, and several conference rooms that could each hold ten or more people. The only catch was that there are no elevators, but Eva and her family and staff carried our luggage upstairs. That was a huge help. Breakfast made this historical landmark feel like a bed and breakfast. There was bread, coffee, tea, juice, eggs, yogurt, meats, and fruit, so we were ready for the day. The dining room had white tablecloths, white orchids, dark wood walls, and stained glass windows. It made us want to linger over breakfast. Just outside were shops, cafes, and bars, with indoor and outdoor dining where we could try German food. The Hofgarten was a few minutes away on foot and a must-see. On our last day, Eva’s son drove us to the Munich airport in the hotel van for a reasonable price. We were glad not to have to take the train again. It was hard to say goodbye, but I think we’ll be back, and we’ll absolutely stay at the Goldener Anker. You’ll feel like royalty there.

I took the train to Nuremberg for its Christmas market, and the station was only a few minutes’ walk from the hotel. In Bayreuth, I got a peek at some of the other bedrooms, all different and exquisite. Mine was spacious, clean, and decorated beautifully in red, with a gleaming ensuite stocked with tissues, shower gel, lotion, mirrors, towels in every size, and a comfort box with a shower cap, ear plugs, cotton pads, and buds. The bed was comfortable, and the hotel felt warm and cozy. Breakfast was delicious, served by friendly staff in an elegant dining room with white tablecloths and real silver cutlery. The food was cooked perfectly and included goose, trout, and beef, with an excellent chef. I was warmly greeted at reception by a real person, and they carried my bags up to the room. The hotel itself was beautiful and unique. I was overjoyed to find that hotels like this still exist, with their quirky character and wonderful attention to detail. It was an awesome, relaxing, enjoyable stay.

My first time at this wonderful Bayreuth hotel, and the central location, stylish rooms, and fabulous dining all hit the mark. The service was exquisite, with the kind of manners and personal attention that took me back in time. I had to post under my moniker, but Eva and her team will know me as Anthony A...!

The restaurant’s traditional food was a highlight for me. I enjoyed every bite of the authentic dishes. The hotel itself is full of history, and stepping inside felt like being transported to another era. Its historical charm and culinary delights made for an enchanting stay. If you want a memorable visit immersed in tradition and culture, this is the place.

The breakfast was fantastic, with lots of choices, homemade marmalade, and a massive silver coffee pot and cutlery. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the staff were so friendly, the kind you hardly see anymore.
