The service is what really stayed with us. The owner and staff were on hand for every request and dealt with things right away. You can tell this family has run the hotel for three generations, and that they care about the work and enjoy doing it. Hospitality comes first here, not making a quick profit. The hotel itself is lovely, with spacious, beautiful rooms and excellent food. Utersum is a little away from the main tourist trail, and the beach is fantastic.

We ended up celebrating my birthday at Trii Eilun, where we had a really great steak. Before that, we’d tried to get a table here on Sunday at 8:25 p.m. The kitchen was due to close at 9, but we were told there was no room for two. The restaurant looked only 40-50% full, with 6-7 empty tables right next to us, so I doubt that 20 people had booked shortly before closing and were still on their way. I’d have accepted any explanation from the server. From what I’d heard on the phone earlier, the kitchen was understaffed, and it seemed they just didn’t want to handle late guests. I’m in the hotel business myself and understand all the complications, but this was a complete waste of time. On the phone they’d told me, “Please be patient.”

The shepherd’s wagon sauna was a real highlight, and the broad beach is about a 10-minute walk away. We had a large, bright room with a balcony and found it very comfortable. Breakfast was delicious and served at the table. It’s a wonderful little hotel, and we’ll definitely come back.

We’ll be back. It’s a cozy, family-run hotel about a 10-minute walk from the beach, and it was great for our dog too. They even put out a bowl and blanket. We had dinner at the restaurant on our last night, everything was freshly made and excellent, and they were happy to accommodate special requests. A perfect place for a holiday.
