Hotel Restaurant Alt Vellern

The staff are helpful and friendly, and the rooms are well equipped. It’s a cozy little hotel in Vellern. If you stay there, try the Erdinger wheat beer. 🍺

The restaurant food was pretty standard, nothing special, but the service really impressed us at Alt Vellern. My schnitzel was undercooked, and I left some on the plate. Because of the language barrier, I didn’t have the energy to bring it up. The staff spoke neither English nor French, and we didn’t speak German. The maître d'hôtel noticed on their own, apologized and offered a discount. That may sound like the basic thing to do, but in my past experience, wait staff often don’t investigate issues themselves. Even when told, they tend to acknowledge it politely and say they’ll look into it, without committing to anything. So I really appreciated that response. The room itself was comfortable, very clean and quite nice, though the retro style may not suit people looking for modern decor.

The rooms are fine and comfortable, though the older style could use a bit of refreshing. If you like that kind of setting, you’ll find it relaxing. My rating is mostly for the restaurant, which serves very good dishes.

The reception was kind, and parking was no problem. My room was clean and quite large. I didn’t get to try the restaurant, but it seemed like they serve good local food.
