Hotel Schwabenwirt

I still remember this lovely hotel so clearly. Sam and the team were incredibly kind and helpful. My fiancee, then my girlfriend, had booked a standard-view room, but I wanted to propose in Berchtesgaden. I emailed Sam, and he arranged an upgrade to a river-view room, then secretly decorated it with flowers and balloons and even adjusted the decorations. The extra charge was worth every Euro. The room was spacious, and the river flowing at night sounded like wonderful music to someone from the city. There’s a restaurant for beer and a proper dinner, and the breakfast buffet was good quality. Berchtesgaden HBF is just a two-minute walk away, and buses to other sights or Salzburg are close, yet traffic didn't disturb us in the room.

We paid about $230 a night for a double room. It was clean, comfortable, and just the right size for two, with an excellent complimentary breakfast. The hotel's restaurant served good German food at a reasonable price. Staff were friendly and efficient, and we got a guest pass for free bus travel. Since the hotel is opposite the bus station, getting around the region was easy. After 20 years of traveling in Europe, this is one of the best hotels I've stayed at. I hope to return to Hotel Schwabenwirt on another visit.

The location is hard to beat, right across from the hauptbahnhof, and the bathrooms are gorgeous and new. The decor feels like a 1990s hostel. The draft beer choices were awful, although the food tasted good. Having a fridge in the room was a nice plus, but rooms facing the road get a bit noisy.

The breakfast spread had lots of variety, with both hot and cold food, and the woman at the front desk was friendly and got me checked in quickly. The location is excellent, near the bus station, supermarkets, and dm. My room felt a little dated, and the sound of dripping water was annoying at night.
