The setting is stunning, and the food was good. We came for dinner, though the service could use work. The waiters didn’t smile, and their manner came close to unfriendly.

The private bathing terrace and the Augustiner-run restaurant and beer garden, with its café and Sunday sunset bar feel, add to the lakeside atmosphere. The rooms have a historic, nostalgic feel, and most look out over the lake. Service is warm and personal, and the mood is relaxed. Strandhotel Berg in Berg am Starnberger See is in an unbeatable spot, suited to a romantic escape, local food by the water, or a peaceful break.

On Mother’s Day we hoped to have lunch in the restaurant, but a very unfriendly service lady told us every table was booked and we needed a reservation. We went to the beer garden terrace instead. While we were there, at least five empty tables stayed unoccupied. I guess the owner has plenty of money to let staff deliver this kind of customer service. I wouldn’t recommend going.

We usually come in summer for the terrace view, especially at sundown. The restaurant is decent, just average in my opinion, and not as spectacular as some reviews suggest. They do a good job, which is almost a pleasant surprise given the lack of competition for lakeside spots with a nice sunset view on the eastern shore. It’s always full, so it’s better to reserve a table.

The view is amazing, and the rooms are nice, though quite outdated. The mattresses are super hard, so they weren’t nice to sleep on. The restaurant is pleasant too, but it feels understaffed and a bit chaotic. Everything takes ages.
