Hotel Amelie Berlin

My mum and I stayed five nights. The room location was nice, around a ten-minute walk from the nearest train station, and both rooms were quiet. But the women at reception didn’t know any English. The rooms looked unattractive and had old furniture. They weren’t cleaned every day, and some things were broken, including a restroom door handle and a wall outlet. There’s no elevator. Breakfast was a letdown: little variety, minimal offerings each day, and low quality. Sometimes items ran out and weren’t replaced.

There are lots of places within walking distance, including boats, buses, and a train station. But the room was small, with a tiny bathroom, and neither the TV nor Wi-Fi worked. Breakfast has very little choice and encourages small portions. My brother ate yogurt that had been left out in the open and got sick. I’d avoid this hotel if possible.

The room is tucked inside a private courtyard, away from the street, so it was peaceful for sleeping. The location is excellent too, about a minute from Bahnhof Berlin-Friedrichstraße station. The heating worked quickly and kept the room really warm. The shower had good pressure, and a hairdryer was provided. There are plenty of TV channels. Wi-Fi was fine for browsing, though not so good for streaming video. The lady and girl at check-in were friendly and relaxed. When I messaged for the Wi-Fi details, they sent them quickly.

The location is very good, close to the center, and the staff were polite, though very few spoke English. Breakfast was included, with inexpensive Lidl products and not much variety, but you could take as much as you wanted and at least fill up. We stayed in rooms in the building next door, so it didn’t feel like a hotel. Our room was old, dusty, and badly worn, with wrinkled sheets, dirty old curtains, wooden windows, and damage throughout. Two of the three beds were comfortable. The bathroom was old, and the wooden bench was worn. There was no air conditioning or fan, and opening the window meant morning noise from work. The internet was slow. There was no room service during our stay: no cleaning, fresh sheets, towels, garbage removal, or toilet paper. Cleanliness was generally a problem. It was overpriced and needs renovation and cleaning.
