The noise made this a stay I wouldn’t repeat. The walls aren’t soundproof as the website claims, so we could hear the highway right beside the hotel all day and night. Inside, we heard the next-door guest’s TV blaring around 6am every morning, along with his snoring, which kept us awake most nights. We were first given the wrong kind of room. The receptionist rudely insisted that a queen size bed could mean two small beds on opposite sides of the room. After we got a room with an actual queen size bed, we found the walls were paper-thin. It’s not a fancy hotel and we didn’t pay much, but next time in Berlin I’d rather sleep in a tent than come back.

We stayed here with a friend one or two years ago, booking at the last minute during a major festival when the hotel was full. They still treated us well and put us in a large, bright room with plenty of space, a TV with lots of channels, and a desk. The room and bathroom were perfectly clean and tidy, and staff made sure we got everything we asked for. We arrived 6 hours before the agreed check-in time and waited in the common area without pushing for an early check-in. The staff were so kind that they got our room ready about 1 hour after we arrived. The receptionist was flooded with requests and situations like ours, so I wasn’t surprised she seemed tired and a bit irritated at not having enough time to handle everything properly. The location is really good. Of the many hotels, hostels, and pensions I’ve stayed at in Berlin, this was the only clean one with the best staff and equipment. It was cozy, cheap, well furnished, and I’d recommend it.

The staff are nice and helpful, and the breakfast is great. The room was small but nice and clean. You can see the highway from the window, but I still slept well. The corridor was dark and smelled musty in the morning, though thankfully that happened only once. Click my name to see the photos I took at the bottom and judge for yourselves.

The highway is only 10 meters from the hotel, and the rooms smelled of cigarette smoke even though the place is advertised as non-smoking. With poorly insulated windows and thin curtains, I couldn’t sleep. The low price doesn’t make up for being awake all night.

Since asylum seekers have been housed there for some time, the place has become completely neglected. They wedge stinking garbage bags between the windows and leave them hanging out instead of taking them down. I don’t think it’ll ever be what it used to be. What a shame 😡😱
