Happygolucky Hotel Berlin

The staff were great, but the guests were noisy and the place wasn’t clean. The beds make a loud racket whenever anyone moves.

Thanks to the guys at reception for helping me get an extra locker and some tea bags at night. The room itself was awful: not because it had eight beds, but because the beds and room were in such poor condition and there was basically no hygiene. Even with the windows open, the smell was unbearable. I know it’s a low-budget place to sleep and I’m not expecting luxury, but basic cleanliness should still be standard.

The location was fantastic, right by the train station, several parks and restaurants, and close to the tram that goes to the airport. The workers were really nice, which I appreciated, and I loved the artwork inside. I was disappointed that the pretty graffiti on the front was no longer there, unlike in the pictures. WiFi was mediocre and kept dropping in and out, while my mobile data signal was patchy, so getting my work done was difficult. My bathroom was very nice and clean. The bed was decent, with bedding and pillows, but there weren’t many restrooms or showers. Other guests weren’t always pleasant, and some loud people were staying there. Kids down the hall also banged on my door as a joke. That wasn’t necessarily the hostel’s fault, but it was annoying.

The afternoon receptionist was really helpful when my phone charger went missing from the room. He checked with the housekeepers, but nobody knew what had happened to it. Then he found a cable and adapter in the inventory and gave them to me.
