Hotel Panorama Am Adenauerplatz

I shared a room with three classmates for four nights on an organized trip from Italy to Berlin a few weeks ago. The lock looked as if the door might have been forced before, but it still closed properly and caused us no trouble. The beds were comfortable, and the shower had one of the best water pressures I’ve encountered, though that may not suit someone who isn’t used to a strong jet. The pillow had an unusual shape, but I slept fine with it. Our trip included breakfast and dinner, and everything I ate was good. The cook serving us was kind. When a classmate’s leg hurt, the cook even brought her a bag of ice. Some of my classmates complained about the food, but I didn’t find anything wrong with it. It was nice and made me feel at home. On our last night, two classmates and I visited the bar connected to the hotel. It felt welcoming, with a few people chatting over the playlist, and a guy played a great jazz improvisation on an electronic keyboard. My experience was good, and I don’t have any personal complaints. You’ll probably be fine if you’re comfortable with simpler things and with the kind of experience you’d get at some two-star hotels, rather than needing a particular lifestyle, tradition, or food.

Breakfast was good for €7, but with all the coach parties it was difficult to find a seat. The attached bar only takes cash, so bring some. My room was small and basic, but clean. It had no facilities like air conditioning or a fridge, though the bed was comfortable and the duvets were clean and warm. Reception was small and very busy, apparently with lots of coach groups.

The reception staff were welcoming and efficient, and the restaurant food was okay. But breakfast and dinner were made unpleasant by a surly woman who kept chasing and nagging guests, which ruined the atmosphere. The place was cheap, but the low price doesn’t make up for the filthy condition. There was dirty linen, stains all over the carpets, bedbugs, mould on the shower curtains, and used q-tips left by previous guests. Maintenance was completely lacking, too. For our entire three-night stay, just one small elevator was running in this ten-floor hotel.

I stayed one night, and it worked well enough as a place to sleep. The location is very good, with a train station nearby, and the price is reasonable. The building, furniture, and elevator show its age, and there was an old smell, but it was clean and comfortable enough. Parking is available for 10€ per night. I can recommend it for a short stay.
