Hotel-Pension Charlottenburg

A lovely, quaint hotel in a nice part of West Berlin. The hosts were really friendly and the room was very clean. There are plenty of nice restaurants and shops close by, and a Lidl just down the road. I’d recommend it.

It’s a decent place on the cheaper side. Don’t expect anything fancy, but you should be pleased with it. The location is good, especially if you’re going to Berlin Zoo, and the city centre is close too. You can get around town and take a Bolt for 11 euros.

The room was spacious and the cleaning was okay, and the location is really good. But the way management handled our missing belongings was far less helpful. We left two expensive suits, among other things, in the room when heading to the airport. Travelling with two babies can make us absent-minded. We called that same day, and the cleaning staff responsible told us the items had been found in our room and put somewhere safe. Later, when our relatives came to collect them, they were told the items had “disappeared.” When we called management again, the person we spoke to was bald and tattooed and said he was an architect. He wouldn’t give us an explanation or a real apology, rejected the idea of getting help from the police, and threatened to file a defamation complaint if we posted a negative review. That gave us the idea to post one, by the way. We’re going to file a formal stolen goods complaint with the police and hope they can investigate the hotel’s security. German police and prosecutors can be pretty good, so we have some hope they’ll find the items and whoever took them. If this happens to anyone else, we advise filing a complaint. You can easily find how to report a crime in Berlin by searching “file a complaint police berlin,” and even make a simple anonymous complaint. It could help the investigation and prevent similar disputes for other travellers. That’s where things stand for us. We hope management changes its behaviour and really helps us find the missing items, so our opinion of the hotel can improve.

The place was clean and nice for our short stay. We managed to check in after calling the number on the door, luckily, but the instructions didn’t match: our description said check-in was anytime after 1, while the door said 2-6 pm and nobody was there when we arrived.
