The north Berlin location was good, and the three-night price was reasonable. But the apartment felt grimy and dirty, and I wouldn’t book it again. The ground-floor door had a huge lock and bar because the owners told us to keep it locked all the time. The kitchen was incomplete, sticky on the counters, and there wasn’t anywhere to sit back and relax. A table for six took up the whole kitchen, and there was barely any furniture or space to hang clothes. The inner courtyard was messy with nowhere to relax, the shower doors leaked, and the area was noisy with lots of people walking by. I should’ve picked somewhere else, away from the ground floor.

The room was on the ground floor, and with the building gate always open, plus signs of a break-in at our apartment door, we didn’t feel great about leaving the window open at night. The entrance vestibule smelled of urine. Thankfully, nobody actually broke in. There were also cleanliness problems: mold in a kitchen wall niche and dirt and mold all over the inside of the shower wall. It clearly hadn’t been cleaned properly, and I had a scratchy throat during the stay. For over €800 for five nights, I expected a lot more. We had the wrong access code at first, but it was sorted quickly by phone. The room itself was okay, with only the basics. For five nights we got two toilet rolls and one large and one small towel each. There were five coffee capsules and a few tea bags, but no sugar or salt, just some leftover pepper and oil.

The apartment was roomy and fairly central, with good public transport. Still, it was uncomfortable, and we definitely wouldn’t stay again. It wasn’t ready at check-in, and the PIN we were given was wrong, as was our neighbor’s. We only got a working code after calling. The floor was filthy, the bathroom was dirty, and cables dangled from the TV. At night it was incredibly noisy; we could hear the neighbors’ every step. The boiler kicked in every five minutes, and being on the ground floor meant we couldn’t air the room. I was there for work, but the internet wasn’t fast enough, and the TV only had three channels.
