Jugendherberge Berlin Ostkreuz

We came on a class trip and really liked the staff and our four-person room. Breakfast was nice, with a fair number of choices, including vegetarian and vegan options. The location is lovely too, less than a ten-minute walk from Ostkreuz.

This place is great for families with little kids. There’s a big outdoor playground, gym equipment for the parents, and a small indoor play corner for bad weather. We got a crib, a changing mat, and a separate nappy bin in our room, which was so thoughtful and useful. I’ve never seen that in a hotel before. The room was large, beautifully designed, and really practical, with a massive bathroom, at least ours was. It feels a world away from the youth hostels of the 90s. If we didn’t have to put on and take off our own bedding, we could have thought we were in a three-star hotel. Breakfast had everything you’d expect and was good quality. Even the eggs were cooked perfectly, without the greenish-blue yolks you often get at hotel buffets. The location is good and should get even better once the construction site between the hostel and the station is gone. There’s a cafe, though we didn’t eat there, so I can’t comment on the food. The staff were very friendly. Barrier-free access currently takes a bit of a detour around the whole building, but I’m wondering if that’ll be sorted once the construction is finished. 10/10, I’ll definitely be back!

The price was great, and I’ll come back. There was plenty of space throughout, including in my room, and I slept really well. Breakfast had everything I needed, including freshly made American pancakes. A really good experience.

We’ve stayed here twice and loved it both times, especially for a family trip with kids. The cafe does great coffee, and breakfast and the other meal options were excellent. It’s clean, tidy, spacious, and affordable, with an ideal location. One of the best hostel stays we’ve had in Europe!
