Leonardo Hotel Berlin

We couldn't get a decent night's sleep here. The hotel sits right over an express market that's open until 1 a.m., and groups of drunk people yelled outside every night. Inside, the room felt old: stained, smelly carpets, a cold smoke odor, and a mattress that needs replacing. The desk staff couldn't or wouldn't help. For this quality, cheaper hotels are available. I wouldn't recommend staying here.

The room was clean, roomy, and had the basics covered, including soap and towels. No slippers were provided, so ask for them or bring your own. We paid €70 a night for a twin room, which felt like good value. Bismarckstraße station, serving the U2 and U7, is about a two-minute walk away, and Charlottenburg has plenty of cafes and good places to eat, especially on Kantstraße. Staff were friendly and helpful, with reception open around the clock. We also found the lobby water, sweets, sofas, and bar welcoming, and luggage storage came in handy. I'd stay here again when I visit Berlin.

We spent more time out exploring than in the hotel, and for that it was a good-value place to stay. There are lots of shops and good restaurants nearby, and weekend parking on the neighboring streets is free. Our room was tidy, with comfortable beds and enough space for two. It met our expectations without being anything special, and I'd recommend it.

I've been coming back for years and can't think of another Berlin hotel I'd rather stay at. The location works perfectly for the opera, sightseeing, and walks with my little Sheltie. The rooms are modern and comfortable, everything is absolutely clean, and the staff are friendly and professional.
