Motel One Berlin-Hackescher Markt

The location worked really well, with restaurants and convenience shops close enough to walk to. My room was small, but everything in it worked as it should. I paid US$150 a night and got a 3.5 rating. Check-in took around ten minutes because of the queue. There was just one bottle of water for our two-night stay, and guests who skip breakfast shouldn't count on complimentary coffee. I could hear the trains at night from a room beside the tracks. Decent enough stay.

Breakfast had plenty of variety, and the room was clean, comfortable, and soundproof. The staff were attentive and helpful. The hotel is especially well located for the nearby metro.

I haven't stayed at this hotel, though I did stay at the Edinburgh one and imagine this place is just as good. We stopped by the ground-floor bar, which had a really relaxed feel. There's a good range of gin at reasonable prices, plus plenty of non-alcoholic choices. You order at the bar and the bartender brings everything over to your table.

We couldn't justify paying to stay here, but after the power outage in east Berlin, we needed somewhere to charge our phones. The desk staff were wonderful and showed us to a table near an outlet. We had a drink while we waited, and nobody made us feel that we had to.
