Pension Peters

Breakfast is a must here. There’s a big choice of healthy, organic food, including gluten-free items. And the location is spectacular: right in the heart of Charlottenburg, surrounded by restaurants, cafes, parks, and shops. We didn’t need a car or public transport to get around. I travel worldwide for work and usually choose large, swanky hotel chains. I found Pension Peters on Google Maps while looking for somewhere near my venue, and it’s a very different kind of stay. No luxury decor or endless corridors with key-card locks. It’s cozy and charming, and my room was huge compared with the tiny rooms I’m used to. The building dates from 1898, with large decorated stucco ceilings typical of Victorian times and huge windows that let in lots of light. The decor and bathroom are sparse, but clean and welcoming. The big, heavy doors still have decorative hardware and use actual keys. The arrival felt personal, too. With only a couple of guests still due to arrive, the manager, Sven, greeted me warmly and said, “you can only be Ms. Honacker or the other name.” It’s a family-run business, and you can feel that throughout. I’d choose it over the fancy chains any day and would definitely recommend it. I didn’t need air conditioning because the weather was nice and I opened the windows, but there doesn’t seem to be AC. I’m not sure how they cool the rooms during hot summer weather.
