Wilmina Apartments & Lofts

One of my favorite evenings on our trip was spent relaxing by the fire, with the books from the common areas nearby. The sauna was memorable too, so don’t skip it while you’re here. Everywhere we went, the staff were lovely and happy to answer our questions. I also liked how the building’s history shows through alongside the current design. Each space feels thoughtfully put together, and the longer I stayed, the more curious I got about the place. It was a seamless experience from start to finish. Thank you, Wilmina. The apartments were very comfortable: spacious, new, clean, and well equipped, with everything we needed in the kitchen and bathroom. The bakery’s fresh bread and pastries were marvelous, and there’s free coffee and tea in the lounge. Breakfast had what you need, though I wouldn’t call the selection especially broad. We stayed in the Wilmina apartments, which are in a separate, newer building, rather than in the hotel itself. I wish we’d known beforehand that the hotel used to be a women’s prison. Preserving an old building and giving it a new life is great, but if that history might bother you, this may not be the right fit. You can still see a lot of it in the windows and doors, and you have to unlock several doors to get to breakfast. Eating in the prison yard wasn’t really my thing. The apartments are great overall, but it would have helped to know the building’s history ahead of time.

The rooftop is a peaceful spot, with the gym, sauna, and pool all up there. I also liked the cozy lounges for working or just unwinding. The rooms are on the small side, though that makes sense given the building used to be a prison. They have serviced apartments too, and I’d be interested in renting one for a longer stay next time I’m in the area. The hotel’s in Charlottenburg and has a distinctive approach to renovation that preserves the old building. It’s won architecture awards, and you can see why once you’re inside. The facilities were always in pristine condition, and the staff were extremely kind. A great place to spend a few days at the start of a Berlin trip. Thanks to all the staff for a great stay.

Such a calm stay in the middle of a global city. The staff were lovely, and I really made use of the free coffee and pastries in the kitchen. Breakfast and the food were wonderful, and everything felt quiet and relaxed. It’s a great spot in a quieter part of Berlin, set in a former women’s prison that’s been refurbished as a boutique hotel. Highly recommend.
