The owners (Jan Ernst) were extremely friendly and accommodating, and breakfast was delicious. The rooms were exceptionally clean, and the cafe served delicious food in a peaceful setting with woodland walks nearby. Five stars from me for sure.

The rooms were clean and spacious, but the stay didn't feel welcoming. The owner or operator was unfriendly and grumpy at reception and in the rest of our communication, so the feel-good factor was zero. The breakfast buffet had the bare necessities and nothing more. There was fruit salad but no fresh fruit, cucumbers, cream cheese, salmon, mozzarella, or similar extras. Eggs were cooked fresh, though the scrambled eggs had no chives or bacon. We stayed one night at Hotel Café Ernst in Bernkastel Kues, but wouldn't recommend it or return.
