We had a warm welcome and great service, and the hotel is excellent value. The owners really seem to live for their guests. The room and house are dated, but that suited us fine: our room was clean and spacious, the beds were lovely, and we looked out over sheep in a field, with their bells and a little river nearby. There’s a modern sauna and spa. I only tried the cold bath outside at the back, overlooking the field, and it was a great way to cool off after a five-hour hike in 30-degree weather. There are plenty of hiking options for different abilities right outside, and the hotel is on some of the routes. Pick up the hiking maps there. Some routes mean walking beside quite busy roads. It’s safe, but I didn’t enjoy having cars speed past me. The hotel is next to a road that’s not busy, though. The village is small, with little beyond a bakery, which was closed for the holiday while we were there, so you’ll need your own transport to get around. Breakfast was great, and they’ll make whatever you’re missing if they have it. Dinner was great too, and nearly every table was full. It seems popular locally, which is a good sign.

There isn’t much to do in this small city, so it works well if you just want to eat, drink, and relax, though hiking is easy to get to as well. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room was clean and modern, with a nice view from the balcony.

The breakfast had a nice selection, and there’s an on-site restaurant serving local Black Forest dishes. The accommodation was nice overall. Our room felt warm, as many do in Europe, and there wasn’t a good way to get air moving. Road construction outside also meant an early wake-up.

We spent two nights here while motorbiking in the area. It was a very nice, clean place, and the staff were really friendly. I’d stay again.
