Nymphe Strandhotel & Apartments

We felt uneasy leaving our belongings and pet in the room after two young cleaning staff members came in despite the do not disturb/service sign on the door. Some items went missing. We can't prove they took them, but it seemed obvious to us. The room and location were wonderful, which makes the incident especially disappointing. Management neither apologized nor reimbursed us, and we expected more professional, trustworthy staff from a four-star hotel. We were still charged the full pet fee at checkout.

The location was great, and the price felt much more affordable than other hotels of a similar standard. We were three family members traveling with our dog. The hotel charged €12 per night for the dog in May 2023, and kindly provided a dog basket plus food and water bowls in the room. Breakfast was a pleasant open buffet in the restaurant by the entrance, though I think it could offer more choices.

We were quite happy with the cleanliness, restaurant, and our stay with the dog right up until checkout. That conversation at reception ruined the impression, and we won't return. The employee told us they couldn't see the dog listed in the system and said we hadn't told the hotel we were bringing one. Yet at check-in, a colleague saw our dog, welcomed it, explained the hotel rules, and told us we could go everywhere with it. They apparently didn't record the dog or explain the room charge. We were also never told on the booking.com page, in emails, or elsewhere that we needed to notify the hotel during booking, despite its promotion as dog-friendly. When I pointed out that the check-in colleague could have added the dog to the system, the receptionist replied that they didn't know what happened at check-in and couldn't see it now. No responsibility was taken for that process. I also felt lectured when I was told that you have to call or write to every hotel before arriving. That's not true, and I don't appreciate being told how to behave at every hotel in the world. Reading other reviews later, I saw that guests with dogs had received a bowl and basket. I now understand we paid for those, but never got them.

Check-in went perfectly, and everything was very clean. Breakfast felt a bit overpriced to me, though. There weren't many vegetarian choices and hardly anything vegan, plus no sweet pastries, pancakes, waffles, or omelet.
