Wagners Hotel Wastlsäge

We stayed four nights at the Wastlsäge in January, and the beds were excellent. I liked them enough to track down the maker of the box spring beds, and I'll buy my next mattresses there. The room was spacious, though the bathtub was a bit small, so showering was the only option. We enjoyed the spa area and its lovely pool. Textile saunas aren't really our thing, but the layout made it unavoidable. Breakfast was very good, especially the white sausages with sweet mustard, pretzels, and tea. The underground parking was large and free, which was a big plus. We'll definitely return!

The kids loved the non-alcoholic cocktails, and there was plenty to keep them busy indoors too, from the pool and sauna to billiards, a games room, and an indoor bouncy castle. We also enjoyed how close Wagners Hotel Wastlsäge is to the Geißkopf cable car, just a two-minute walk away, with the 2 km toboggan run nearby. Even pony rides in Bischofsmais are available in winter, which was another big hit with the kids. This was our second stay, and we had a fantastic time again. Half-board worked really well for our family and felt like great value. Breakfast could have had a little more variety, but at that price it's a pretty minor quibble. We'd happily come back again.

The breakfast had a great selection, and it was nice to be able to bring our dog and have a room with a terrace. For a short stay, those were real pluses. But both check-in and check-out were disappointing. My partner and I have never been welcomed so rudely at a hotel. At checkout, they handed us the bill without even saying goodbye, then turned straight to the next guests with the same unfriendly manner. That reception really soured the stay, so sadly this was our first and last visit.
