The owners, Mr. and Mrs. Moderegger, made us feel welcome and were always helpful with questions and local tips. The apartment was roomy and had more equipment than we’ve ever seen in a rental. Bischofswiesen also worked perfectly as a base: the towns and villages around the Berchtesgaden region were all within a 20-minute drive, and shops were less than three minutes away. We felt very comfortable and will be back.

The apartment itself was very large, which I liked, though it’s showing its age. The house sits beside the main road, and there’s a tractor repair business behind it, so it was noisy in the morning and evening. The Wi-Fi barely reached upstairs, where we got maybe one bar, although it worked downstairs with the landlords. The mobile network in the area was poor too. A repeater in the hallway could help the guests upstairs. When I raised the issue, I heard comments like “No one has ever complained before” and “Some people work up there like that.” I think other guests may have felt the same but kept quiet. The welcome was warm, and my son and I were offered a drink. After that, though, Mr. Moderegger pushed us about the registration forms and came into the apartment while we were unpacking. We had nowhere to be and could have filled them out calmly. It seemed he was worried he wouldn’t get the remaining €400. During the holiday he kept catching us as we left or came back, asking what we were doing or planning. He even followed us down to the street while we were just playing badminton. It felt like stalking. We’re on vacation and want some privacy and peace, and neither was easy to find here. I can’t recommend the place unless those things don’t matter to you.

We spent eight lovely days in a 70 sq m holiday apartment at the privately owned Moderegger house in Bischofswiesen. We’d happily recommend it.

The hosts are lovely, and staying here feels like being at home while on holiday.
