We found the price for five nights very fair, and having a car makes getting around the area much easier. There's plentiful free parking just a short walk from the houses. Most places in the Berchtesgaden Alps and the Austrian border are within a 20-minute drive. Our clean, roomy two-person apartment was peaceful, with a window facing straight toward the Watzmann and a wonderful view of the mountain. The only sounds interrupting the quiet were cowbells. Herr Brandner was welcoming and interested in how we were doing. He can speak good English, which helps if your German is rusty, and he offers fresh bread delivery right to the door each morning.

We stayed for a week in the Watzmann holiday apartment and found it very clean, in good condition, and stocked with everything we needed. I was glad to find an espresso machine instead of just filter coffee. The guest carport is a nice feature too. Best of all was the little covered patio outside, with its breathtaking view.

That direct, open view of the Watzmann and the peaks around it was incredible. Outside the apartment there's a covered table and seating area beneath a balcony filled with well-kept flowers. The place has everything you'd need, and from there Aschauerweiher, perhaps Germany's most beautiful natural swimming lake, is just a few minutes away on foot. Königssee is nearby too. We loved our five days in the Watzmann holiday apartment and only wished we'd booked earlier so we could have stayed longer.

Fresh bakery rolls arrived at the door every morning for a fee, and the host family were warm, friendly and very good with children. The apartment had everything we needed, plus a huge balcony overlooking the Kehlsteinhaus (Eagle's Nest) and Jenner. We could also see the Watzmann and the Sleeping Witch, a local landmark. In the evenings we enjoyed quiet walks with wide mountain views. We had a wonderful week in the *Brechtesgarden* holiday apartment and would love to return.
