Akzent Hotel Zur Grünen Eiche

Clean rooms, a great breakfast, and a nice location made this a good stop. It did get a little warm in the room at night, though that's just our preference. We'd still come back 😊

We were driving from Switzerland to Norway, and this worked pretty well as a pit stop. The food was decent German home-style cooking, with big portions, plenty of salt, and lots of extras. Our bathroom was bigger than the bedroom. The hotel feels stuck in the 90s, though I imagine many guests don't mind. The room was like a grandma's guest room, and the architecture... well, who picks a hotel for that? Check the pictures, it's almost interesting.

The staff were very nice, and breakfast was OK, but the coffee was awful. They didn't put out the usual coffee machine, so I had to ask for it. There were only bread rolls in the pastry area, no croissants. The food at dinner was very German and salty, almost as if the cook smoked. There was a bus tour group of older people there too. The restaurant is a glass extension with tiled floors, and it gets so loud you can't hear yourself think. Reception and the buffet share a space that feels like an old 1950s party cellar, with random clutter like teddy bears in a glass cabinet and sticky notes. It badly needs decluttering and updating. The hotel area felt dated as well, with a defective coffee machine, broken drinks machines, old furniture in the hall, and random things that smelled like a granny's wardrobe. We couldn't sleep either of the two nights. The bed was really uncomfortable, the road outside was very loud, and the feather bedding set off my allergies. The balcony was NOT SAFE, with a big gap around it that looked very dangerous. I didn't like the old-fashioned Bible in the room either. Glad to be home again.

The chef is fantastic, and the restaurant was perfectly clean. His lemon meringue is absolutely delicious, made from an old family recipe passed down through generations. A must, I could eat it every day!
