Pension Zur Lärche

We found it a great base for hiking and excursions, though not so good for cycling. The hosts were really friendly, and both breakfast and dinner were excellent. We stayed five days and would highly recommend it.

We were a group of 10 and stayed two nights. The rooms, breakfast, and location were all fine, but dinner left me very disappointed. The value for money was poor: there were two menus, one for locals and another for hotel guests, who were charged significantly more for food and drinks. Outrageous!

The rooms and restaurant restrooms have been renovated, and everything was very clean. I saw three rooms, all with en-suite bathrooms. Mine looked out onto a big larch tree and the full moon, with lovely birdsong from the meadows. The breakfast preferences were collected ahead of time, and there are hearty meals in the evening. I could hear the meat being tenderized in the kitchen while my homemade cordon bleu was being prepared. I came back for the herb congress and the flea and herb market over the weekend. The walk to Großbreitenbach is short and pleasant, though there's a decent uphill stretch. I can recommend the guesthouse for day trips and hikers. The entrance gives a dated first impression, with a stale smell and a worn carpet. There's also a dilapidated pavilion still standing in a corner, and someone has already mentioned why.

We'd been looking forward to our three-night stay, but left after just one. The food was barely edible, and all four of us thought it was very, very bad. We work in the restaurant industry and agreed we didn't want to stay any longer. In our opinion, the owners have given up. The first impression was appalling: a run-down tent that looked as if it had been buried in too much snow over winter, peeling window panes on the other side, and a terrible reception. The smell that hit us was indescribable. What a shame.
