BaseCamp Bonn - Hostel

The place itself was amazing, but one staff member ruined it for me. A lovely young woman checked me in; later, a different woman was at reception. I stood there for five minutes and she ignored me completely. I asked if it was because I was English, and she looked straight at me with a smirk but still said nothing. When I later confronted her, she reacted the same way. There’s no place for racism in society, especially in a hostel.

I was given a little private room with a bed inside an actual retired night train carriage, parked in the middle of a huge indoor camping facility. There are Trabants and other vehicles you don’t see every day. Honestly, I’d pay to visit this place as a museum, so being able to spend a few nights here is something else. In my opinion, one of the seven wonders of the world. Great job, guys!

Such a quirky place, with a great atmosphere and a concept I’ve never seen before. The toilet and shower facilities are good, though the train carriage cabins are a little small. You can buy drinks and snacks at reception, and breakfast has a reasonable choice. Can’t wait to come back.

The concept is really cool, and both the room and facilities were clean. We accidentally booked a spot in the train, which was much too small and had no blinds, so people could see straight in. Next time we’ll book a caravan instead. The staff were nice, breakfast was decent, and I’d definitely stay here again if we’re nearby.
