Hotel Ohlenhoff

I stayed five days and found the hotel very clean, with friendly staff. They’re only there for half the day, so late arrivals need to check themselves in. The process was fairly easy, though you’ll need to understand German or have someone with you who does. Good value for the price. There’s a bus stop right outside, and decent parking if you’re driving.

There’s a fridge with cold drinks and a snack bar on the ground floor, plus at least two nice restaurants nearby. The hotel is close to the airport, right under the route to the active runway from 6 to 23. My room was comfortable and the location worked well. The price and service were good, and breakfast was too, especially the tea, bread, and scrambled eggs.

They gave me a different room the next day, and the staff were very friendly. I also got a free breakfast voucher and, later, a 50% refund for my first night because the room hadn’t been tidied. When I arrived, the bed wasn’t made and the bath towels were on the floor. It was very late and reception was empty, so I had to deal with it then. The room itself was fine, the bathroom was older but okay, and there’s no AC. Fine for a few days.

A good choice if you have a car and want to explore the region, with places like Lübeck, Wismar, Kiel, and Lüneburg, as well as Hamburg, about a 25-minute drive away. The hotel is outside Hamburg, near the airport and autobahn. There are two or three restaurants within walking distance, and some shops a bit farther off by car. The room was spacious and very clean, parking out front was free, and breakfast had a great range of good options. Staff were friendly, check-in was easy, and the price for what you get is great.
