Tante ALMA’s Bonner Hotel

The rooms were clean and had everything we needed, and the hotel is in a lovely, cozy spot with a parking garage. I only wish there had been hooks in the bathroom for used towels. The pillows in our room were really terrible too.

Breakfast never showed up, and the hot water was gone by 7:20 a.m. There’s no hotel staff in the morning, and nobody answers the phone. Don’t count on getting help.

The room turned out to be spacious, very clean and quiet, with a comfortable mattress. The bathroom was small but adequate, though the shower curtain is too short and you’re likely to get water all over the floor. Room service also needs to be booked separately by scanning the QR code on the bathroom mirror. We only saw someone at reception when we checked out a few days later. Arriving late at night, we found the doors locked. I’d contacted the hotel several times beforehand to say we’d be late and was promised detailed check-in instructions by email on the day. Nothing arrived. I called the hotel number and reached an adviser in a different part of Germany who’d never been to the hotel or even to Bonn. Eventually we figured out the key safe and got our room card. Then we found out the parking garage was apparently broken. Nobody had mentioned this in our earlier correspondence, and there’s no nearby street parking. We managed to work out how to override the garage door. It’s tiny, but at least the car was safe.

The hotel is a bit outside the city, in a quiet neighborhood close to Poppelsdorfer Schloss. It’s well suited to families, and I’d happily stay again. The staff were extremely friendly and everything was spotlessly clean. We especially enjoyed the top-floor lounge and terrace, with complimentary coffee and cake, and there’s a basement room with board games. Tante Alma’s Hotel has a very cozy atmosphere.
