Perle am Rhein

The breakfast was very good. But the Wi-Fi didn't work in either of our two rooms, and the restaurant was closed Monday and Tuesday during winter. The owner should update the winter opening hours, since the restaurant was our sole reason for booking. With it shut, we had to travel 4km to Boppard to look for somewhere to eat after a 500km journey, when we'd rather have relaxed for the evening.

I arrived quite late looking for a room, but unfortunately the place was full. If I'm treated the same way next time, I'll be really disappointed. Don't mistake my kindness for stupidity. Every hotel always has some spare rooms just in case. I had to head back out into the night, sit at a desolate train station, and take a train just to get warm.

The owner was wonderful, and an amazing cook too. We'd booked during the Rhine Aflame festivities in 2016 without realizing it, and felt lucky to find anywhere to stay. I asked whether he could book us seats on a tour boat to watch the fireworks from the river, expecting them all to be taken. He contacted the owner of a local tour line and secured two seats for my wife and me. I'd lived in Germany for a total of 12 years, and the rooms and bathrooms were on par with most places we'd stayed around the country. From bed in the morning, you could see the castle ruin across the river. We hope to visit Germany again in 2019 and spend time at Perle am Rhein once more, this time with friends. I never got around to reviewing our visit two years earlier. Shame on me.

The reception was fantastic, and the staff went above and beyond. The location is superb for both its beauty and practicality. The food was outstanding, and the rooms were very comfortable.
