The old town isn’t where I’d choose to stay, this is a livelier, nicer part of Bremen. The place is clean, the staff are friendly, and the bad reviews seem to be from before the renovation. A great base for a few days exploring the city.

We were greeted by a good first impression, but it didn’t last. The place smelled musty, like laundry that hadn’t dried properly, and cleanliness was poor. There was a greasy glass table on each side of the bed, so disgusting that we covered them with paper rather than put our glasses down. In the spacious shower, a piece of broken mosaic tile was lying there, and I nearly stepped on it. There was almost nowhere to put clothes for a whole week. Each of us had a locker only 20 cm wide, with two hangers and room for a couple of pairs of socks on top. We ended up carrying kitchen chairs into the bedroom for our clothes. The advertised desk was missing too, so I spent evenings at the round kitchen table, using a floor lamp I’d brought in from the living room for light. Although the minimum rental was seven days, we got two towels each and just one tea towel for the kitchen. After we complained, four days passed before we got two more towels and some tea towels. We were also told to buy our own toilet paper. Our arrival day complaints weren’t answered until two days later, despite this being a weekend trip, and nothing was put right. We didn’t even get an apology. The apartment cost €95 a day, which is comparatively expensive, and should be cleaner, better equipped, and have friendlier service. There was no personal welcome or small gesture, and when we asked for things, we were dismissed quite rudely. It felt unwelcoming and unprofessional. I wouldn’t risk upsetting guests over two rolls of toilet paper. I can’t recommend it. Fortunately, our previous and later stays in Bremen vacation rentals were all very positive: clean, nice, and friendly, at half the price.

The booking and rental support were friendly and helpful, and someone was available on site. The apartment itself is modern, newly furnished, and practical, with a combined living and sleeping room, a separate kitchen, and a spacious bathroom with a shower. It has everything needed for a pleasant stay in Bremen, plus a small roof terrace upstairs for warm, sunny evenings. It’s quiet and pretty, close to the calm Weser riverbank on one side and lively Ostertorsteinweg on the other. A garage comes with the price and is well worth using, since parking around the neighborhood is limited.

We strongly advise against booking the Classik No. 4/2 apartment with two rooms. The price and what you get are completely out of balance, and the place is outdated and badly needs modernization. The furniture is all mismatched, from different brands, with no manufacturer known. The bed is fine, but the tables on either side are both different and wobbly. The kitchen dishes are okay, but there’s just one champagne glass and two water glasses. The cooktop isn’t level, so when you fry something, the oil runs to one side. For eating and relaxing, there’s a small table and two leather armchairs that are supposed to be good but are worn out. The tiny bathroom was the worst part. The shower looked awful, with black and brown grout. There’s only a small hand basin, and the toilet sits right in front of the entrance. You have to climb over it or squeeze through with only about 20 cm of clearance. The old flat-screen TV has a terrible picture, with blurry faces. After it was replaced, the new unit had constant interference. When we complained to the host about the TV, he angrily slammed the door.

After a positive first impression, things went downhill with a complicated key pickup through a restaurant, a broken bedroom light, and a TV that didn’t work. Those problems were fixed promptly once reported. But being sharply and rudely told to lock the outside door because someone else had left it unlocked was a nasty surprise. On Sunday, the situation was reversed. Under time pressure, I called the landlady in the morning and urgently asked her to open the door. She did after a wait, then subjected the guest to a stream of obscene, extremely insulting language. It was so unexpected and inappropriate that I can’t recommend the property.
