Hotel Riede

We've stayed here many times over the years and it used to be good, but yesterday was a letdown. At 8:30, breakfast had no bread and the coffee was cold and old. After we asked, they brought out thawed bread rolls that hadn't been baked. The unfriendly lady at reception made us two croissants and said breakfast was at 6 o'clock, as if it were our fault. It seems like the hotel may have changed ownership.

I only stayed one night, and the service was excellent. Sure, some spots were dirty and there was a spider web on the ceiling, but that didn't bother me. Breakfast was as good as any, and I'd probably come back for a short stay, just not for a long one.

The room was right across from reception, so every little noise from people coming into the hotel made it hard to sleep in the evening. During the five days I was there, the room was never cleaned. The WC cover was broken and wouldn't open, and the internet access was so limited that it was impossible to use. The hotel was very bad and dirty. I would never recommend it to anyone.

We checked out as soon as we could. We'd spent three weeks in Germany, and this was by far the worst stay. Check-in took about an hour. The windows were open when we finally got into the room, so we shut them before heading out because it was chilly. When we returned that evening, the room smelled awful. I still can't work out what the smell was, but I think it came from the bathroom vent. In daylight, we noticed black mold on the inside of the windows.
