We arrived quite late on a Friday evening as the Vahl family. About half an hour before we got there, someone called to ask whether we’d be hungry. A man whose name I unfortunately can’t remember gave us a very warm welcome, then made homemade schnitzels for us despite the late hour. He was also up for a good laugh and sharing a bit of history.

This castle is an amazing hidden spot, and its imperfect restoration gives it a lovely character. The staff are especially friendly and accommodating, something I don’t take for granted. When I visited again in August 2024, it still had its charm, but prices had gone up and the portions had shrunk. Breakfast wasn’t as good as a year earlier, and there was less choice.

The kitchen was closed, so unfortunately I didn’t get to try the food. Still, I enjoyed the lovely breakfast served by friendly staff, and the historic castle near Magdeburg has a lovely park to walk around.

It’s a quiet place with free parking, spacious rooms, and a good breakfast. The hotel is in a castle, just a short drive from the highway.

I felt welcome during my one-night stay in a small double room. The staff were friendly, and breakfast was plentiful. The castle is an exceptional historic place, and I’d recommend the hotel.
