Hermann's Neue Post

A warm, friendly place.

The owner was friendly and dependable, which was the one good part of my stay. In Apartment 1, the noise was constant: outside sounds, people on the stairs, even a baby crying next door all came through. With no curtains and the room beside the walkway, there was no privacy at all, and it felt like being on display in a cage. The furniture looked like a jumble, with nothing matching. The refrigerator was sometimes loud enough to wake me in the night. There wasn’t a proper table to eat or work at, only the one holding the TV, where you sit with your back to the light. The lighting was too dim for me in the evenings, especially with two of the four small ceiling lights out. In the bathroom, the water meter (see video) made an incredible racket, particularly at night. Old, mismatched blankets were left on the table and bedside table, and I found dust in some corners. Of my 127 overnight stays in 2025, this was easily the biggest disappointment.

While hiking the Ostweg long-distance trail, I stayed here and got a fantastic apartment. It had lovely furnishings and seemed to have been renovated fairly recently. I highly recommend it.

The landlords were really friendly, and the apartment was spacious, well equipped, and excellent value for money. In the hallway, there was a self-service station for coffee and drinks, with payment on the honor system. We also found the location ideal for exploring nearby places and going hiking, with the train as an option if needed.
