Ingo, the owner, saved the day when the wind shut the door after I left the key inside. He was kind when I called back and hurried over to open it, then shared some gracious stories about cooking. We arrived to find our room cards waiting at the inside desk, so everything was well prepared. The view of the castle was great, and the place was quiet and clean in a perfect location. Nice pillows, too, and an excellent spread of food the next day.

The room was unbearably hot, like being inside an oven, and the little electric fan didn’t work. It was noisy, and the walls and ceiling let us hear people walking. The bathroom was dusty, our room was never vacuumed during our five-day stay, and housekeeping didn’t give us fresh towels. Luckily we had our own. Internet was very weak, people weren’t friendly, and parking was hard to find and cost €50. We couldn’t relax because the place was so noisy. Be careful about the gap between expectations and reality. Before check-in, we rang the bell many times when we arrived at 4:30, but nobody opened the door, and no one answered the phone. It took almost an hour and a half to get checked in. There’s no front desk or reception information, so this isn’t an hotel or B&B I’d recommend. The owner went on and on, though she or he should be kind and humble to guests. I know this from working many years in five-star hotels. We thought our honeymoon would be calm, cool and enjoyable, but it was a very bad experience. I’d give half a star, not one.

We came across this place by accident while walking through Cochem’s alleys. There’s a lovely little patio in the sun where you can sit with friends and drink wine, and the food and wine were both great.

The atmosphere was nice, the service very good, and the fine dining excellent.
