The room was huge, but the bed collapsed three times, the thin windows let in everything from the busy street, and the church bells were really alarming. There were unexpected charges and hardly any facilities. After a long day, I was shocked to discover my suitcase was missing because the cleaners had moved my luggage out of the room. I had to look for it at reception. The hostel is close to the cathedral, and the security guy was lovely, but I’ll never stay here again.

The location is perfect, right in the city centre and close to the train station. Staff were outstanding, and the accommodation, showers, and toilet were clean and good. The booking price was good too, though the beds could be better. I was surprised by the extra €3,00 bed fee and the €20,00 cash key deposit. There are no lockers or safe, but you can leave luggage or a suitcase at reception. I can recommend this place 👌🏽

It’s a huge hostel, and my room had a nice view of the cathedral. Still, many things around the hostel are broken, as you can see in my photos, and there are no lockers in the rooms. It was an okay stay overall. Be aware that check-in is only until 10 pm and bed linen costs 3 euros. I called to say I’d arrive in the middle of the night, and they agreed. If you call ahead and let them know you’re coming late, the skeptical security guard can check you in.

It’s about a five-minute walk to the central station, which is worth two stars for the location. But finding my room was left to me: the guy handed me a key, walked around the block at least 50 meters, pointed out the stairs from downstairs, and that was it. He didn’t really show me the room, so I had to find it and the bed myself. The second-floor shower was clogged, with not even a simple mat. I’ve seen this mentioned in other reviews, and it seems the administration doesn’t bother cleaning the whole place often enough. Checkout was another hassle. Reception felt like it was still 1998, with everything on paper and no order to the filing system. It took 20 minutes to get my €20 deposit back, and they couldn’t even find my file. Allow at least 30 minutes for checkout.

I’m used to roughing it as a soldier, but my temporary Army accommodation was better than this paid hostel, so I cut my stay short by one night and went back there. This was so bad that I felt compelled to leave my first ever review. I really wish I’d read the reviews before booking. There are much better hostels in cologne, so don’t waste your money here. I know a hostel won’t be luxurious, but the basics should be decent. On my floor, only one toilet and one shower worked. The shower was cold and had no pressure. Neither had been cleaned properly, and they were still dirty the next day after housekeeping had been round.
