Stefan, Sasha, and the rest of the staff made this stay for me. I was already feeling unwell from allergies at another place, and they went out of their way to help me feel comfortable in Köln. They care about the people around them, and it shows. The hotel has a really homey feel, with a garden on the way to the rooms, bikes out front, and schools and a church all around it. It’s spread across two cool-looking buildings, and the guests, many of them there for conferences, were interesting too. The rooms are cozy, the beds are super comfortable, breakfast is good, and the spot in Südstadt is quiet but still close to everything. I can’t think of another hotel in Köln with that same balance.

Both nights I had trouble getting into the building with the electric transponder key. On the second night I was stuck outside for an hour and a half, late at night, trying it more than 500 times. I couldn’t get hold of anyone at the hotel despite trying every official number I could find. An employee finally replied late the next morning, after I’d checked out, and didn’t apologize for the key problems. It was a terrible experience, and I won’t stay here again.

The neighbourhood was one of my favourite parts: quiet and pleasant to look at, with several nice cafes and Volksgarten park within walking distance. The rooms are bright and roomy, and most have their own bathroom. Staff were helpful and friendly, and the meals tasted good. It’s not right in central Cologne, but it isn’t out of the way either, which worked perfectly for me.

The staff were friendly and flexible, and both the room and bed were clean. It’s a good spot for a short stay in Cologne, with the city centre about 15 or 20 minutes away on foot, or just a few minutes by taxi.

The meeting room was handy, especially with the outside terrace. The location was nice too, but the food came out cold and wasn’t very good. The place itself felt a little basic.
