TRYP by Wyndham Koeln City Centre Hotel

The train station is right across the street, which makes getting around easy. The hotel has comfortable rooms and a small fitness room, plus a breakfast with plenty of options. A great base for a Cologne trip.

The area is convenient, close to the Cathedral and just behind the station, but it gets loud at night. There were also lots of homeless people and drunk people hanging around. Inside, the hotel felt old and smelled that way too. The room carpets were dusty, and the dark bathroom smelled moldy. The website photos were seriously misleading. At reception, staff assumed I couldn't speak the language, then complained about and insulted other guests who were checking out.

The central station is right beside it, which is really handy and pretty much the reason to stay here. For a single night it's okay, but the hotel itself is nothing special.

Our upgraded room and the smiling service made for a decent stay. Being directly opposite the train station suited us perfectly, and the triple glazing kept the noise down. There are plenty of restaurants nearby, and we were lucky enough to catch a free open-air concert by Patrice. The chocolate factory is by the river, near the fairly large wheel, if you fancy a treat.
