Uhu Gästehaus

The neighborhood is quiet, with good restaurants and other services nearby, and the room was comfortable. UHU worked well for a weekend with my daughter, visiting Phantasialand and Köln. A train or tram ride to the city center takes about 30-45 minutes. The private parking felt safe, was reasonably priced, and we could still use it after check-out while spending the day in the city. Breakfast was the disappointing part. Guests aren't allowed to use the coffee machines, the scrambled eggs were far too salty to eat, and there was a dead fly between cucumber slices. I know things like that can happen anywhere, and it didn't ruin the trip, but it's why I gave four stars instead of five.

We were five friends and got a tidy, very large room with space for all of us. The staff were helpful and friendly, and breakfast was excellent. With the train station so close, this is a convenient base for visiting Cologne.

The room was spacious and comfortable, and the hotel itself was comfortable too, with nice renovation and decor. Breakfast was good, served in a roomy dining area, and I loved all the cereal choices and the coffee and tea. Friendly team and good service.

We couldn't change our dates because the hotel requires requests at least 28 days ahead. That seems to assume you can predict illness almost a month in advance. In our first conversation, we were told we could cancel and receive a voucher to reschedule. The email the next day contradicted that and cited the 28-day rule as the reason we wouldn't get one. When I called to explain, the front desk representative was discourteous and unprofessional, and didn't give their name. There was no empathy or sympathy. Based on this, I advise against booking with this hotel.
