Ahorn Hotel & Restaurant

There’s plenty of parking, and the service was just right. It’s an older place, but clearly very well looked after, with the rooms and bathrooms in good shape. I’d happily stay again.

The breakfast was a bright spot: good service, freshly baked rolls, and fresh scrambled eggs. The orange juice seemed more like juice from concentrate. The hotel is solid and appears to be family-run, so reception and restaurant hours are limited, with no reception late in the evening. We were there as a group of 23. Some rooms were quite small, though mine was a good size. The bathroom was tiny and costs the hotel points. In the shower I could barely turn without hitting the faucet and changing the temperature. The water swung between hot and cold, and in that little cubicle there was no direct way to adjust it. It’s about a 15-20 minute walk from Cottbus main station. There aren’t restaurants or activities nearby. Lausitz Arena is around 10-15 minutes on foot, which is handy if you’re there for an event. A Netto and what seemed to be an Asian food stand are about 100 or 200 meters away. Netto closes at 8 p.m., and I couldn’t find out the stand’s hours. There’s no elevator, and the hotel isn’t wheelchair accessible. A decent, ordinary hotel, but nothing special, which is why I gave it 3 stars.

The room was clean and fine for us, even if a little small. The hotel family were all warm and helpful during our New Year’s Eve stay. We had a really nice party, with a generous, tasty buffet and all the free drinks we wanted. We’d gladly come back.

We enjoyed the tasty food, though Covid meant we had to eat it in our room. The restaurant itself is modernly furnished, and we hope it can open for dining again soon. The hotel also has a lovely courtyard that would make a quiet place to relax when the weather’s good.
